The timber is dried and seasoned outside; this is then moved to an unheated covered area outside for long-term storage.

Timber is moved into the workshop environment a minimum of 6 weeks before it used (we always have a supply of timber inside ready to go). This ensures that the moisture content of the timber becomes acclimatised to the workshop.

Timber for the project is selected, looking at the grain pattern and colours, to ensure as close a match as possible.

The timber is then dimensioned and planed to roughly the correct size.It is then left for 48 hours, so that any internal stresses in the wood will show now, not later when the item is finished or in the owners home.

The timber is now correctly dimensioned, laid out and matched (especially Panels and Tops) and joints cut.

The project is then dry fitted.  This means it assembled together with no Glue or Nails (or Screws) to check for good fitting joints and that all parts are correct.

The project is then taken apart again and the individual parts are then sanded, scraped and smoothed before assembly.

The item is then assembled using Glue, screws or nails, checking that all the angles are correct – it is set aside for the adhesive to dry/cure, normally over night.

After the clamps are removed, the item is checked again for correctness any minor adjustments are made, Final sanding, scraping and smoothing is undertaken before being taken to the finishing room.

Once in the finishing room, the item is checked again for imperfections prior to the application of any finish (any corrections necessary; are returned to the workshop, in order to keep the Finishing room as clean as possible).

The finishing of an item can take from a few minutes to many months of work, depending on the finish selected.  The item is stored in the finishing room throughout this period, where the temperature and humidity are constantly monitored to ensure the stability of the item.

Items are then stored in the finishing area, ready for delivery or collection.

Customers are welcome to come along at any stage during the process to view the progress of their item prior to delivery.
